RAW MATERIALS

The best wools are sourced and acquired months in advance by selecting the most suitable quality to produce different types of textiles. Whether it is Merino wool from Spain, Australia, South America, England, the Falkland Islands or Italy, or precious Chinese or Iranian cashmere, the Wool Mill’s experience and expertise has proved essential when it comes to identifying the best among the various origins.

Complete production cycle for fabrics in carded wool

After carefully selecting the best wools, the flocks are DYED in different colours that together create the mélange; these are then passed on to the CARDING department where wicks are produced by winding the tufts between soft bobbins. This is followed by the important SPINNING process where, by passing through rings, winders, couplings and twisters, yearn is produced by winding through spools and bobbins.

WARPING, WEAVING AND FINISHING

Both carded and finely combed yarns are stretched in sequence to awaken the fabric’s vertical elements through the WARPING process and they are subsequently arranged onto looms. The fabric is then WEAVED with modern rapier looms. The wefts (the horizontal element of the fabric) are inserted through the threads of the warp to create the desired fabric in infinite colours, structures and design combinations. At last, the fabric receives its final touches in the FINISHING>/strong> process. Here it undergoes a series of physical treatments aimed at bringing out the specific characteristics of each type of carded or combed fabric (resistance, softness, heat, crease, stability, etc.)
